ThinkstockA new map from the Washington Post shows whether your state has more cats or dogs. There are slightly more U.S. households with dogs than cats, although cats outnumber dogs overall.

Most Popular Cat States -- Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Ohio, Oregon, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin

Most Popular Dog States -- Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas

According to the map, there are more cats in the Northeast and Upper Midwest, and more dogs in the South and Southwest. You can also see which countries around the world are more cat loving or dog loving. - See it at the Washington Post
